WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOO?
Cosmetic tattoo is used to enhance your natural eyebrow with the use of a pigments implanted into the upper layers of the skin. We can mimic the look of natural eyebrow hairs or create a soft shaded (make-up like) eyebrow depending on the clients skin type, age and personal preference.
WHAT TECHNIQUE SHOULD I CHOOSE?
There are a few different techniques to choose from and choosing the best option will depend on different factors.
FEATHER BROWS - MICROBLADED
Feather microbladed brows are a popular form of eyebrow tattooing that uses a technique to create fine, hair-like strokes, giving the illusion of natural eyebrow hairs. This approach, also called "feathering," is particularly suitable for clients who want a soft, subtle, and natural-looking enhancement rather than a solid, filled-in brow.
Key Aspects of Feather Microbladed Brows:
-
Technique: Feather brows are created using a handheld microblading tool with tiny needles arranged in a line, forming a blade. The artist dips the blade in pigment and makes small, controlled strokes in the upper layers of the skin to create fine, hair-like lines.
-
Natural-Looking Results: The goal of feathering is to mimic the direction, thickness, and density of natural eyebrow hairs. This technique is ideal for clients looking to enhance their brows with a light, fluffy appearance that blends seamlessly with their existing brow hair.
-
Semi-Permanent: Feather microblading is a semi-permanent technique that lasts between 12 to 18 months, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Regular touch-ups are recommended to maintain the look.
-
Best Candidates: Feather brows work well for those with thin or sparse eyebrows who want natural enhancement. It’s not always ideal for clients with very oily skin, as oil can blur the fine lines over time, clients with sun damaged skin, larger pores, thin skin or bleeders.
Microbladed brows are best suited for people looking for a natural, hair-like enhancement to their eyebrows. This technique is ideal for individuals who:
-
Have Normal to Dry Skin: Microblading works best on normal to dry skin types, as oily skin can cause the pigment to blur or fade more quickly, which may reduce the longevity and crispness of the strokes.
-
Desire a Natural, Subtle Look: Microblading is designed to mimic natural hair strokes, making it ideal for people seeking subtle enhancements rather than a bold, filled-in look.
-
Have Sparse or Uneven Brows: Individuals with sparse, thin, or uneven brows often benefit from microblading, as it can fill in gaps and create a fuller appearance without the need for daily makeup.
-
Can Commit to Maintenance: Microblading is semi-permanent and requires touch-ups every 12-18 months. People who are willing to maintain their brows and follow aftercare instructions are well-suited for this technique.
-
Are Not Prone to Certain Skin Conditions: Those without skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, or excessive oiliness in the brow area are typically good candidates, as these conditions can interfere with pigment retention and healing.
NANO BROWS -
-
Technique: Unlike microblading, which is done with a manual blade, nano brows are applied with a tattoo machine. This machine uses a needle to create hair strokes that mimic real hair.
-
Skin Suitability: Nano brows work well on all skin types, including oily skin, unlike microblading which can sometimes blur out strokes. This technique penetrates the skin more evenly, making it a better option for those with various skin types.
-
Longevity: Nano brows generally last longer than microblading due to the depth at which the pigment is implanted. With proper care, they can last between 1-3 years before needing a touch-up and depending on the clients desires.
-
Healing: Because the tattoo machine is gentle, nano brows typically cause less trauma to the skin, and many clients report a faster healing time than with microblading.
Benefits of Nano Brows:
-
Realistic Appearance: The ultra-fine hair strokes make nano brows ideal for achieving a natural look.
-
Durability: This method generally requires fewer touch-ups than microblading.
-
Customisable for All Brows: Nano brows work well for those with thin, sparse brows or even those with no eyebrow hair, allowing for fully customised designs based on the client’s preferences.
COMBINATION BROWS -
Combination brows are a semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing technique that combines the hair-stroke effects at the front of the brow with the shading of ombré or powder brows throughout the rest of the brow. This approach creates a fuller, more defined brow that still appears natural.
The combination technique is highly customisable, offering clients the softness of hair strokes and the depth of shading, often resulting in a 3D effect that adds dimension and realism to the brows.
Key Features of Combination Brows:
-
Technique: Combination brows typically start with hair strokes at the front of the brow to create a natural, feathered effect at the front. This is followed by shading along the mid-to-tail end of the brow with a digital machine, giving the appearance of depth and fullness.
-
Natural Meets Defined: The microbladed strokes provide a natural look at the front of the brow, while the shading enhances definition through the rest of the brow, creating a slightly bolder effect compared to hair strokes.
-
Suitable for Most Skin Types: Combination brows work well for a variety of skin types, including oily skin. The shading aspect of the technique tends to hold pigment better than microblading alone on oily skin.
-
Longevity: The shading in combination brows typically lasts longer than microbladed strokes alone, meaning fewer touch-ups may be needed over time. Results generally last between 1-3 years, depending on skin type and aftercare and clients desires.
Benefits of Combination Brows:
-
Natural Yet Full: Combination brows are a versatile option, ideal for clients who want a natural appearance with added fullness and definition. They are also best for clients who have uneven density/thickness of eyebrow hairs as it can be hard to mimic fine hair strokes if the client has thicker, coarse eyebrow hairs and gaps with just a hair stroke effect.
-
Longer Lasting: The shading technique helps with pigment retention, particularly beneficial for clients who need longer-lasting results.
-
Customised Look: Artists can adjust the intensity of shading and the placement of hair strokes to match a client’s desired style and brow shape.
This technique is an excellent choice for individuals with sparse or thin brows who want a fuller look without sacrificing a natural appearance, as well as for clients who want a balance between the softness of hair strokes and the density of shading. If a client has quite coarse eyebrow hairs with gaps or they are missing the tails of their eyebrow, this or ombre/powder brows are also the best option.
OMBRE BROWS -
Ombré brows (also called powder brows) are a semi-permanent makeup technique designed to create a soft, gradient effect in the eyebrows. This style mimics the look of brow makeup by giving a filled-in appearance that’s lighter at the front of the brow and gradually darkens toward the tail, creating a natural yet polished look.
Key Features of Ombré Brows:
-
Technique: Ombré brows are created with a tattoo machine that deposits pigment gradually through the eyebrow. The technique builds up pigment, allowing for a gradient effect from light to dark.
-
Gradient Shading: The front of the brow typically has a soft, misty effect, which becomes progressively darker as it moves toward the tail, giving the brow dimension and shape.
-
Long-Lasting: Ombré brows tend to last between 1-3 years, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. They generally require fewer touch-ups than microblading.
-
Skin Suitability: Ombré brows work well for all skin types, including oily and sensitive skin, as the shading technique holds pigment better than microbladed hair strokes alone on oily skin.
Benefits of Ombré Brows:
-
Defined Yet Soft: Ombré brows create a filled-in effect without harsh lines, making them ideal for clients who prefer a more defined look that’s still natural.
-
Low Maintenance: This style tends to hold up well over time, requiring fewer touch-ups and offering a “wake-up-with-makeup” effect.
-
Customisable Intensity: The shading can be customised to achieve a soft, powdery look or a more bold, makeup-like finish depending on the client’s preference.
-
Suit All Skin Types
Ombré brows are ideal for clients who like the look of brow powder or pencil and want a polished appearance with low maintenance. This technique is often a good choice for those seeking long-lasting, smudge-proof brows.
MISTY BROWS -
A misty eyebrow tattoo is a style of semi-permanent eyebrow tattooing, similar to the ombré or powder brow technique, where the tattoo artist uses a machine to create a soft, misty, shaded effect across the brows. This technique gives the brows a “powdered” or “airbrushed” look, with a subtle gradient that is lighter around the edges of the brows and darker in the middle. The effect is intended to mimic the appearance of makeup, similar to using a brow powder or pencil, but without harsh outlines.
Key Features of Misty Eyebrow Tattoo:
-
Soft and Natural: Misty brows are designed to look soft and natural, giving a subtle “filled-in” look without harsh lines.
-
Gradient Effect: The gradient effect is achieved by creating lighter edges around the eyebrow, which darkens in the centre giving the brows a softer finish.
-
Long-Lasting: Misty brows typically last between 1-3 years depending on skin type, lifestyle, and care. They are generally low maintenance and offer a long-lasting "makeup" look.
-
Ideal for All Skin Types: This technique works well on all skin types, including oily skin, which can sometimes cause hair-stroke methods like microblading to blur.
Benefits of Misty Brows:
-
Defined but Natural: Misty brows can add volume and definition without the starkness of a solid tattoo, making them ideal for clients who want fuller brows with a natural look.
-
Customisation: The misty technique allows for control over the intensity of the colour and shading, meaning the look can be customised for a more subtle or dramatic finish.
-
Minimal Touch-Ups: This method tends to hold colour well and can last longer than hair-stroke methods, reducing the need for frequent touch-ups.
Misty brows are a great option for individuals who prefer a soft, powdered brow appearance that’s similar to using brow powder or pencils, providing a low-maintenance and polished look.
WHAT ABOUT COLOUR & SHAPE SELECTION?
Colours and shape are individually selected, pre-drawn and measured to suit the clients desires, facial structure, current eyebrows and skin tones. Everything is discussed, measured and selected with the client before the procedure begins.
